Scottish Power almost doubles wind power output in 2009
Construction of Europe's largest onshore wind farm, the 322MW Whitlee development, near Glasgow, was completed during the year. In December, Scottish Power was granted permission to build more turbines at the site, which will take its maximum output to 593MW.
The European Wind Energy Association recently stated that 39 per cent of all new capacity installed in the EU during 2009 was wind power, with investments totalling €13 billion.
Total wind power capacity in the EU is now just short of 75GW, up 10GW on 2008
